Ongoing projects and activities

IOM undertakes a number of activities in the Austrian context to prevent and counteract the human rights violation of trafficking in persons.

Beyond implementing concrete projects, IOM is a member of two sub-groups of the Austrian Task Force on Combating Human Trafficking on child trafficking and trafficking for labour exploitation and is also an observing member of the Platform against Exploitation and Trafficking. IOM is furthermore regularly invited to participate in expert meetings or speak at events hosted by the EU Fundamental Rights Agency (FRA), the Organisation for Co-operation and Security in Europe (OSCE), the UN Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) and other relevant stakeholders.

IOM Austria also engages in a number of regular and ad hoc measures to address trafficking via its long-established partnerships with national authorities and civil society organizations in Austria. For instance, the office has supported the Task Force’s annual commemoration of the EU Anti-Human Trafficking Day in Austria since 2009.
